Peter Debruge is a full-time features editor and senior film critic for Daily Variety, covering everything from child actors to the Cannes film festival for the paper. His writing on film has appeared in such publications as Premiere, Life, Creative Screenwriting, IndieWire and The Miami Herald, as well as the book "Variety's The Movie That Changed My Life." Peter attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated summa cum laude with a degree in film studies, edited the entertainment section of The Daily Texan and wrote a Plan II honors thesis on the aesthetics of movie trailers. After school, he spent four years in New York, where he worked for Entertainment Weekly and AOL Moviefone before moving to Los Angeles. He joined Variety in 2005.
